2021 has certainly been an interesting year full of new challenges in a world that will be ever changed by the impacts of Covid19. We have seen a rise in the number of new mothers seeking our support services. It is critical now, more then ever before, to raise awareness about perinatal and infant mental health. It is perfect timing for World Maternal Mental Health Day – an event founded by the Gidget Foundation – to roll around. This year we collaborated with WA Country Health Services, South West Aboriginal Medical Services, Radiance Network and State Wide Perinatal and Infant Mental Health to bring a free event to Bunbury raising awareness about perinatal and infant mental health. The morning was full of compassionate smiles between mothers and cheeky giggles from little ones as they played around the hall. Tables around the room provided a mini expo of our local services who provided information, handouts and some very cool freebies. The incredible coffee van ensured all Mums got a hot cuppa for free! And the local Child Health Nurses mingled before taking the Mums on a lovely little bush walk. Upon their return we all had morning tea and listened to the stories shared by two real Mums with lived experience. It was a fabulous event which concluded by thanking everyone for coming along to share in such an important community day.
