Janet Wells, silk painter, poet and author, was born in rural Devon, England. She travelled to Australia on a two year working holiday aged twenty two, where she later met her husband John, a third generation Kimberley cattleman. Together they worked on cattle stations for twenty years before moving to the Southwest of Western Australia.

Janet, who has always enjoyed writing, published two small volumes of poetry whilst in the Kimberley. She later wrote ‘Ready For Anything’ the story of her mother in law’s life, Margaret Wells, who opened the first Australian Inland Mission hospital in Fitzroy Crossing in 1939. Janet recently published her second biographical work ‘They Even Paid Me’, a full and frank account of her husband’s life and experiences in stockcamps and managing cattle stations during the sixties, seventies and eighties.

Janet is an accomplished silk painter. She had her own studio gallery ‘A Touch of Silk’, near Bunbury, for eleven years, but now works from home. She has been silk painting for over twenty-five years. Much of her work features birds, flowers and the natural environment in the form of scarves, cushions, cards and wall hangings as well as silk jewellery.  Each piece is unique, Janet finding enjoyment in creating detailed one-off pieces. Her work has been purchased and enjoyed by people worldwide.
